A little moment to shout-out and introduce our amazing studio-mate Brandon Hampton [ @lil___ugly ] painter and street artist extraordinaire, whose work can be found in many businesses and on walls across Durham and Chapel Hill. It's amazing to see canvases come in blank and then emerge from his studio with his fantastic compositions. We've seen him work on small objects or hyper-detailed work like his infamous painted sneakers and while also seen him approach much larger works, like a 8 x 64ft!! mural painted on pieces of plywood. We’ve been so excited to see him making use of the outdoor space at Fatwood to support this large scale work and also have some time to hang.

Brandon also just finished his first year as a middle school art instructor turning young hearts and minds toward creative possibilities. After our first year with him in the STUDIO BUILDING, he's moving from his current spot to the new studios we set up across the way, where he can share with his brother, who is making space for his own practice.

So happy to have the Hampton bros hanging out for another year! 🎨🌳

ANNEX transitions for the solstice ☀️

BIG HUGS to our friends at Carolina Microgreens 🌱who were growing their delicious sprouts in the Annex for the past year. After so much tireless work, keeping the tiny crops watered and making friends and dedicated customers at the farmers market, they were able to sell the business! While we miss them over here, we are excited for their next steps and wish them the best.

Taking over the Annex, FATWOOD welcomes @sourwood.projects ! We are excited to have Heather setting up shoots both in the controlled space of the studios and in the picturesque nooks and crannies on the property.

We know it’s been a minute ⏳ since we’ve given an update but excited to share more soon 👀

We wanted to shoutout the incredible program put together by the folks at @cosmicraysfilmfest taking place today and tomorrow. There’s no place we’d rather be.

Everything starts tonight and we will see you there at 8:00PM for Program 1: LIGHT LEAK and at 10PM for Program 2: IN THE WEEDS at the rainy day venue, VARSITY THEATRE [ @varsitytheatre ].

Tomorrow programs 3 & 4 head outdoors to the THE FOREST THEATER and there are two more not to miss lineups also at 8 and 10PM: FLOWERS BLOOMING IN OUR THROATS and SPACE IS THE PLACE.

We’re delighted to host you back here for the after party tomorrow with live music from Judge Schreber and Her Cosmic Band!

Navigate to 2300 Ivey Road, Chapel Hill, just off Old Greensboro. Park at the fence on Ivey Road and walk up the gravel drive until you find the fire.

Festivities start at midnight! One-off Cosmic Rays iteration of Crowmeat Bob’s ever-shifting Judge Schreber project. Channeling the microtonal minimalism of the Dream Syndicate, the Cosmic Band will feature Emma Dunlap-Grube (Gown, Pool Boy), Evan Morgan (Magic Tuber Stringband), Libby Rodenbough (solo, Mipso), Justin Morris (Weirs, sluice), and Oliver Child-Lanning (Weirs). With accompaniment from a single channel 16mm loop.

We’ll keep the energy moving with the music and a small cash bar and snacks by The Studio Building! Can’t wait to host and to toast the festival and all this work! Huge thanks to Bill Brown [ @billbrown4666 ] and Sabine Gruffat [ @mi55hi55 ] for all their work to pull this together.

UnionDocs is hiring at Fatwood!

We’re seeking an organized, efficient and detail-oriented administrator to support our grant application calendar, maintain basic online bookkeeping records, tracking invoices, online sales, bills, expenses and bank reconciliations reports, aid with budgeting, and the creation of other financial documents, and oversee transactions in the fiscal sponsorship accounts of about about 50 documentary film projects, communicating directly with filmmakers and producers.

This position will work out of Fatwood, minutes from downtown Carrboro, NC.

They will have monthly in-person work sessions with management and connect regularly to the Brooklyn-based team, but must be comfortable working independently alongside the artists at Fatwood.

Thanks to him for putting on a spectacular show for a sold out audience and making this first night of convening here a special one. We always admire the unpredictable and ever-changing nature of FILMS FROM ONE TO EIGHT PROJECTORS and this time did not disappoint. Looking forward to hosting for future tours too!

We are over the moon to be hosting our inaugural event at the space, put together with the wonderful folks at Cosmic Rays Film Festival [ @cosmicraysfilmfest ] and UnionDocs Center for Documentary Art [ @uniondocs ], this Friday, March 4th!

It’s a celebration to light up a first cinematic and mostly small-gauge offering for one night only from experimental filmmaker and programmer Roger Beebe [ @rogerwarrenbeebe ]

He’s bringing us his singular, traveling, and ever-changing program: FILMS for ONE to EIGHT PROJECTORS, called “a single, man-powered, medium-specific spectacle” by The Brooklyn Rail [ @brooklynrail ] and “both erudite and punk, lo-fi yet high-brow shorts that wrestle with a disfigured, contemporary American landscape” by Wyatt Williams in Atlanta’s Creative Loafing [ @creativeloafingatlanta ].

At this point, we are almost at capacity, but do invite you to reserve one of the few spots left online if you go to our link in bio.
